Registered NDIS providerDr Katherine Birt is a Clinical Psychologist who specialises in assessment and post-diagnostic support for autistic adults. She has a particular interest in providing therapy to autistic women. Katherine is currently working part-time as a Psychologist as she has three young children.
On a personal note, Katherine loves animals (cats especially), pilates and spending quality time with friends and family. Along with her passion for psychology, she enjoys the creative side of life. She appreciates art and enjoys going to galleries, live concerts and shows whenever she can. She is passionate about life-long learning and feels that psychology suits her well in this regard.
Prior to studying Psychology, Katherine completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Professional Writing and Literature. She worked in the publishing sector for a short time before realising that she wanted to pursue her passion for psychology and genuine desire to help others.
As part of her Doctor of Clinical Psychology course, Katherine completed research on Relationships in Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Since completing her studies, Katherine has worked with various adult populations including and predominantly those with (or querying) an ASD diagnosis. She has primarily worked in private practice. More recently (since 2020), Katherine made the decision to specialise and exclusively work autistic women and gender diverse people, due to specific knowledge and expertise in the internalising/masking profile of autism.
Katherine is knowledgable and empathically understanding in this area. She genuinely believes that autistic people have many strengths and interesting and admirable qualities, that she is passionate about emphasising and strengthening through her approach.
Katherine adopts a supportive person-centred approach to therapy. She predominantly offers practical neuroaffirming support strategies with elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Katherine is experienced in adult ASD assessment and diagnosis. She finds that some clients pursue a diagnostic assessment purely for their self understanding and acceptance. Others require a diagnostic report to support their access request / application for NDIS funding. Whatever the purpose of assessment, Katherine is able to assist you by providing a comprehensive, evidenced-based assessment report.
